Several postdoctoral positions in theoretical astrophysics may be available in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University, starting in Fall 2009. The Theoretical Astrophysics Group at Northwestern currently includes Profs. Vicky Kalogera, Fred Rasio and Ron Taam, eight postdocs (Chris Deloye, John Fregeau, Loren Hoffman, Ilya Mandel, Soko Matsumura, Stefan Umbreit, Marc van de Sluys, and Bart Willems), as well as ten graduate students. We are interested in candidates with prior experience in any area of theoretical/computational astrophysics, but particularly the following: extrasolar planetary systems, compact objects, X-ray binaries, gravitational wave astrophysics and data analysis, and dense star cluster dynamics. Applications from women and minority candidates are especially encouraged.Applicants should send their CV, list of publications, a brief statement of research interests (up to four pages), and arrange for a minimum of three recommendation letters to be received by December 1, 2008. Email submissions are preferred. Later applications will be considered until all positions are filled.

Postdoctoral Position in Computational Astrophysics and Cosmology The University of Texas at Austin The Department of Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for the position of a Postdoctoral Associate in computational astrophysics and cosmology. The successful applicant will work with Professors Milos Milosavljevic and Volker Bromm and members of their research group on projects related to the astrophysics of early galaxies containing massive black holes, with the goal to characterize observational signatures of black hole growth and star formation in the first generation of galaxies. We are especially interested in candidates with a strong background in astrophysical computing applied to star formation and galaxy formation, but strong candidates in any subfield of computational astrophysics or cosmology will be considered. The successful applicant will have access to state-of-the-art computational and visualization facilities provided by the Texas Advanced Computing Center, http://www.tacc.utexas.edu The appointment will be initially for two years, with the possibility for a third year extension based on satisfactory performance. Review of applications will begin on January 5, 2009 until the position is filled. Candidates should submit a brief statement of research interests, a curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and arrange three letters of reference to be sent to: bh09job@astro.as.utexas.edu (electronic submission in PDF format is preferred), or by mail to: Debbie Winegarten The University of Texas Department of Astronomy 2511 Speedway, RLM 15.306 Austin, TX 78712 For inquiries, please contact Milos Milosavljevic (milos-at-astro.as.utexas.edu) or Volker Bromm (vbromm-at-astro.as.utexas.edu).
